Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture is another micro-system of Chinese Acupuncture and involves the insertion of fine needles into specific acupuncture points that run along the face to naturally help make the skin look younger, smoother, and all-around healthier. And unlike injection procedures, facial acupuncture addresses not only signs of aging, but also the skin’s overall health.

But the TCM approach to treating the face isn’t merely about the face because it is said that without a healthy body how can you have a healthy face? Therefore it is essential to focus on promoting the health of the entire body as a foundation for enhancing the appearance of the skin. While extra fine needles (dermal-needles) might be placed along lines and wrinkles in the face to stimulate the area around the line or wrinkle, there is equal focus on specific acupuncture points in the face and elsewhere in the body to stimulate energy flows (Qi) along the meridians or channels. This ensures a more holistic approach to the patient's overall well-being is adopted during the treatment.

It is also said that facial acupuncture helps to detox the body. Toxins in the skin lead to wrinkles and unwanted redness and other facial blemishes. Also the needles create ‘microcirculation,’ which improves blood flow to the face. This helps get rid of impurities and enhancing the natural ‘glow’ of the face. In some cases, the improved circulation even reduces those unwanted dark circles and dark spots.

The Stomach meridian travels along the face and is responsible for healthy muscles. So by stimulating the acupuncture points along the Stomach meridian, the muscles in the face become better toned. This helps smooth out fine lines and soften any wrinkled areas. The needles also create micro traumas to the face, which help stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. Collagen provides that taught, youthful look to the skin — droopy skin associated with aging is said to be related to poor Qi circulation in the Stomach meridian.
